A White Christmas Afterall

Well the Edwards family has counted our blessings, sang our favorite holiday songs, and stuffed ourselves with all good foods that mean Christmas to us. You can see the skirt under the Christmas tree and the house is very quiet right now (even the dogs are asleep). It is snowing outside and everything is covered in white. A pretty view from where I am sitting at my kitchen table.

Dallas and I feel very fortunate to have been able to give our children a few gifts today. Nothing too elaborate, a few toys and gadgets, books and clothes, but still we find ourselves very lucky.

We wish our friends and other family members that may read this, a Very Merry Christmas and a New Year that brings you God's blessings, good health and happiness.

After All This Time.....

I was walking through the woods behind the house the other day and this was sticking up in the leaves - this eye staring up at me from beneath the leaves. Kindof weird that I would bring this thing out with me - but to a few of us in the Edwards family - this is a very special item. It's BUBBA'S FROG! Our old black lab loved this frog. Big Dallas chopped it up accidentally with the riding mower. Bubba seemed dissappointed to find him damaged but still carried that frog around in his mouth. It was not allowed inside and was usally found on the front porch. If it wasn't, all you would have to say is "Bubba, where's your frog?" and he would run off and get it. He seemed to always know where it was. Bubba got old and getting around was tough for him. One day, the frog just dissappeared.

Now that he has been found, he is back on the porch - seemed that is where he belonged.
Welcome home.

Out with the Old - In with the New!

It was tough not to have AC in the jeep, but being left on the side of the road was the straw that broke Megan's pocketbook. Old Red has finally been retired. Red has been Megan's tank, skating thru fields with ease, transporting her to and from college, and safely up and down 360 day after day. After all they had an understanding, Red would make it to 200,000 miles. I think she was just tired.

Last week I received a phone call from Megan -she was stranded at work. She was mad! She was done! I saw it coming. Dad came and got Old Red going again. A new battery and another bandaid was not enough.
On Memorial Day, while others were enjoying a day at the pool, beach or by the grill, I was car shopping with Megan. We went from lot to lot until.....she fell in love..... with her shiny new ride. Check out Meg and her Honda Civic.

Summertime Fun.

Our first week of Summer 2010 has been fun. Megan took the jump and bought a new car. She is in heaven. She has spent years of driving whatever was in the driveway or the car no one else wanted. Done with all of that - she loves her new Honda Civic.
Aaron and I went to visit the NOVA Wades for little Lauryn's 3rd birthday. Hanging out with the cousins is so much fun.
More to follow.....

Worth Every Penny

A day of racing was just what this family needed. I don't claim to understand how it all works. These two are my resident race fans. Aaron has been a fan of #48-Jimmy Johnson for a few years now. Dallas has gone from Davey Allison to Ernie Irvin to Dale Jarrett and has not settled on since Dale retired. I like anyone but Jeff Gordon.

Now that Aaron is old enough to follow the sport a bit more, he has figured out that when the race was in Richmond - that means "our Richmond" - close enough to go! Kids just dont get that tickets for these races are not only hard to come by, but are extremely expensive. RIR has a new family section, which was just what we needed. We packed our camping grill and plenty to food and drinks for the day and off we went.

Aaron was star struck - his mouth hung open from the moment we pulled into the lot. "WOW! THIS IS COOL! - DON'T YOU THINK THIS IS COOL, MOM?" I heard this over and over. Priceless! I got my money's worth within the first ten minutes.

We took in all that we could and won some pretty cool stuff along the way. Aaron's driver did not win, but he was just glad to be there and watch the whole 400 laps. From the National Anthem and the fly over to the burnout - he LOVED IT!

Don't you just love SPRING!

This past Winter was tough for me. I like the chill of winter and I love to see it snow but after a while - I needed to see a little green. It seemed I was indoors from the middle of December thru the end of February. Too long for me. It just reassured me that I need to live no farther North or West than Amelia, VA.

I have finally packed away the scarfs and gloves and refuse to put on a heavy coat until October. Bring on the warmer temps and sunshiny days!!

As soon as the annuals hit the shelves at Lowes, I bought flat after flat and scattered them around my flower beds. Anything for a little color. Now that April is here, my flowerbeds are waking up and are starting to bloom. I have taken a few pictures before this weekend's thunderstorms mess up the blooms.

Enjoy!

He's Offically OLD AS DIRT

It was almost like a secret mission. It's not easy to plan a party for your husband much less put it together right under his nose. I learned that Dallas goes through each day unaware of things around him - Is he completely oblivious or just a trusting soul.

Megan was in charge of decorations. Dallas Jr. was the diversion, the one that needed to keep him away from the house all day.. Mom helped with the table-scapes and food. Jason pulled out his yummy Mac and Cheese and Beans (2 sep. dishes) and I hoarded drinks and party supplies in the trunk of my car. The day of the party, things went off as planned. Whew!!

We celebrated Dallas' 50th birthday with friends and family. Thanks again to everyone that helped me pull this together. Dallas was surprised and enjoyed sharing a day with those that he loves.

POP was supposed to be watching him!!!

So Aaron had the day off from school and Nana offered to watch him for the day. GREAT IDEA - he can sleep in, relax, get spoiled...perfect! Well, Nana went to the grocery store leaving Aaron with Pop. BAD IDEA! While working, I get this e-mail from Pop - he can't find Aaron! Then a nevermind - found him - he was outside in the top of a tree!!!! What!!! Top of the Tree?

This picture was attached. Boys! and we thought only the little ones got into trouble. Pop's gonna get it when Nana gets home!
